History and background of Bassendean Council

The Town of Bassendean is a local government area in the northeastern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is located about 12 kilometres northeast of Perth's central business district and 6 kilometres west of the industrial centre of Midland. The Town covers an area of 10.4 square kilometres and maintains 97 km of roads. As of 2021, it had a population of approximately 15,932.

The area now known as the Town of Bassendean was originally established as the West Guildford Road District on 10 May 1901. It was renamed the Bassendean Road District on 7 July 1922. Following the enactment of the Local Government Act 1960, which reformed all remaining road districts into shires, it became the Shire of Bassendean on 1 July 1961. It gained town status and assumed its current name on 1 July 1975.

The Town of Bassendean is a member of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council. The current mayor is Kath Hamilton, who was elected in October 2021. The Town of Bassendean includes the suburbs of Ashfield, Bassendean, and Eden Hill.

As of 2023, 335 places are heritage-listed in the Town of Bassendean, of which 13 are on the State Register of Heritage Places, including the former Bassendean Fire Station and the Bassendean Oval.

Required Documents

Below is the list of information that we will require from you prior to submitting the application to council:

  • Complete section 3 only of the application for council, ensure all owners of the property sign this and return either by mail or email.

  • We also require a total of $1311.45 being council fees of $171.65, and the abolishment of gas meter fee $1139.80 paid to our office.  If you would like to pay the fees by EFT please deposit into our Bond Account BSB:  086 275  Acct:  39940 6159, using the address of property as the reference.  The application will be lodged by us, on your behalf. 

  • Complete the disconnection notices and return to us – complete what is relevant to you and we will complete the remainder and obtain the meter numbers.  Regardless of whether there is no connection the forms are still required to be completed & emailed back.  NOTE:  Only one owner can complete & sign the Synergy document

  • Please ensure that both pages of the Synergy document are signed and date of birth is filled in

  • Ensure that final readings (close the accounts)  have been carried out with your gas provider and Synergy, this will then allow us to arrange the disconnection of the meters

  • A copy of the title deeds – example attached

  • A copy of site survey plan – example attached

  • Confirmation that the property is vacant and that a key has been left in the meter box for access and rat baiting.  If not vacant please advise of date of vacancy.  PLEASE NOTE:  THE APPLICATION CANNOT BE LODGED TO COUNCIL UNTIL THE PROPERTY IS VACANT.  If there are no keys made available when going to site a fee will be charged for a second site visit

  • Any salvageable items that you wish to retain, must be disclosed to us in writing if these have not been previously noted. Our policy for removal of salvage is that when keys are issued everything on site becomes the property of JAG Demolition.  We will then place items for sale on Gumtree and all goods are sold directly off site.

What happens to property left behind?

If there is anything you wish to keep it MUST be removed prior to this time or the items will become our property

Trees and Boundary Fences

  • If any tree stumps are to be removed along boundary fencing, client (you) will take responsibility for any damage that may occur to fencing. Please liaise with neighbours regarding this, additional charges may apply for these removals

  • If boundary fencing or parapet walls are being removed, written permission must be obtained from all relevant neighbours prior to application being submitted to council via form BA20A

  • NOTE:  Water is NOT disconnected from site as it is required on site during the demolition process
